Rays win series opener,Joe Carter Throwback Jersey gain ground on Sox

ST. PETERSBURG — Prior to Thursday night’s Red Sox-Rays contest at Tropicana Field, Rays manager Kevin Cash stressed the importance of the series, even if Joe Carter Throwback Jersey it was just July.

The Rays responded in typical Rays fashion by mixing quality pitching with a healthy dose of the long ball to take a 4-1 win and move to 4 1/2 games behind the American League East-leading Red Sox.Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

“Obviously a big win,” Cash said. “With all the hype this series is getting, this is the way to start Custom Saints Jersey it off. Probably went up against baseball’s best in Chris Sale, and he made it very challenging.”

And the Rays’ hitters more than earned the victory, somehow finding a way to top Sale, who struck out 12 in seven innings but came away with his fourth loss of the season.

Peter Bourjos homered on an 0-1 pitch from Sale to lead off the fifth and give the Rays their first lead. Wilson Ramos then added a two-run homer in the sixth to push the lead to 4-1. The four runs Sale allowed were his most since May 30, against the White Sox.

“It started out pretty good,” said Sale. “Middle innings got me. It’s that sixth inning, that home run really sucked the energy out of us. It’s easier to fight down one than down three. I just put my guys in a bad spot.”

Sale’s dominance worthy of ASG starting nod

Rays starter Jacob Faria gave up a sacrifice fly to Deven Marrero in the third that put the Red Sox up, 1-0. The rookie right-hander then notched three additional scoreless innings to come away with his sixth quality start in six Major League starts, earning his fourth win against no losses on the
Men’s Nike Custom Made New Orleans Saints Elite Black Team Color NFL Jersey Sale season.

“They make you work and force you into the strike zone,” Faria said. “I wasn’t in the strike zone very much early on in the game, so it was kind of a struggle there. Just attacking with whatever was working.”

Rays relievers Brad Boxberger and Tommy Hunter added scoreless innings to successfully bridge to closer Alex Colome, who got the final three outs to preserve the win and earn his 23rd save of the season.

Colome’s outing snapped a streak of appearances in which he allowed a run at five; he gave up two runs or more in four of those outings Joe Carter Jersey.

“I’m happy to get it done,” Colome said. “The last three outings, I haven’t been that good, but my confidence is still the same. It’s like great. Bad games happen to pitchers, and position players, too. You have to just stay with it.”

MOMENTS THAT MATTERED
Bourjos has a blast: Sale had struck out nine Rays when Bourjos led off the fifth. With the count 0-1, Bourjos fouled off an 85-mph changeup. Sale then came back with a 78.3-mph slider. Bourjos swung and connected, depositing his fourth home run of the season into the left-field stands to put the Rays up,Custom Jets Jersey 2-1.

“I was just looking for something over the plate and to not do too much with it,” Bourjos said. “Fortunately, I got the barrel to it, and it went out.”

Ramos pulls Rays away: Evan Longoria was standing on second with one out when Ramos stepped into the batter’s box to face Sale in the sixth with the Rays leading, 2-1. Ramos, who hit an RBI double off Sale in his second at-bat, turned on the first pitch Sale threw, connecting on a 94.2-mph two-seamer for a 415-foot homer. Ramos’ third homer of the season, a barreled ball, had a 107.7-mph exit velocity and 32-degree launch angle. Once it landed, the Rays had some separation, with a 4-1 lead.

“Right now I feel a lot better at the plate,” Ramos said. “I’m happy that I’m getting my timing back.” More >

QUOTABLE
“You rarely see good pitches go that far. I haven’t checked, and I probably won’t, so I can sleep tonight. It stinks. You don’t want to do that.” — Sale, having no doubt that his homer pitch to Ramos was mislocated

“They rarely swing at balls out of the zone and really make you work. I think [Faria] realized that and knew that he had to find a way to get in the zone early and find a way to get some early outs, and he did.” — Cash

In the bottom of the eighth, Logan Morrison belted a double to right, but the Red Sox thought they might have gotten him on the throw to second. Boston manager John Farrell asked for a challenge, but the call stood after a review of one minute and 33 seconds.

Wilson Ramos doubles,Joe Carter Throwback Jersey homers off Chris Sale

ST. PETERSBURG — Sitting in the dugout between turns on the mound on Joe Carter Throwback Jersey Thursday night, Jacob Faria heard the thunder roaring outside Tropicana Field. He knew something big would happen that inning, he said.

Shortly after, Wilson Ramos brought the thunder indoors, cracking a two-run homer off Red Sox ace Chris Sale, leading his team to a 4-1 win in the series Joe Carter Jersey opener.

Full Game Coverage

Ramos had tied the score two innings earlier with an RBI double, and he would
Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey throw out two runners on the basepaths.

Should the American League East-leading Red Sox listen closely, that sound they’ll hear is the Rays storming into playoff contention, with Ramos among those leading the charge.

“He’s starting to get in stride,” Faria said. “This whole team’s going to be really, really fun to watch coming up here.”

Ramos’ ability to hit with runners in scoring position was valuable for the Nationals in 2016, as he batted .333 over 135 at-bats, driving in 56 runs. He provided timely hitting for his new team on Thursday.

Ramos has just six hits for the Rays since coming off the disabled list June 24, but he’s made the most of them, with nine RBIs, including eight in the last four games. That ability to hit in the clutch will be crucial for a Tampa Bay squad that is in the bottom 10 in the Majors batting with runners in scoring position (.245).

“Right now I feel a lot better at the plate,” Ramos said. “I’m happy, because I’m getting my timing back with my swing, and also I feel so happy to be able to be aggressive and able to move well behind the plate.”

His prowess from behind the dish is what impressed manager Kevin Cash most on Thursday.

“That’s the first time I’ve actually seen Wilson kind of cut it loose,” Cash
Men’s Nike Custom Made New Orleans Saints Elite Black Team Color NFL Jersey Sale said. “He gets rid of the ball quickly. He’s got such a strong arm, I don’t even think he squares his body up. He just gets up and fires it, and he’s able to throw off his back leg.”

And that’s an area where the Rays have shown need for improvement. Tampa Bay catchers had nabbed 12 would-be basestealers this Custom Saints Jersey season entering Thursday’s game, with 45 steals allowed. Only two teams had caught fewer runners.

Ramos will be leaned on to shore up the catcher position Custom Jets Jersey.

“The first [priority] for me is my defense,” he said. “Throwing runners out; if I call a good game, I’ll be very happy.”

That’s not to dismiss what Ramos did at the plate. He had never faced Sale, but he came away with two extra-base hits in three turns against the lefty.

“Maybe that helped,” joked Peter Bourjos, who also took Sale deep. “He was just up there swinging and didn’t really come up there with an approach, because he hadn’t faced him. I’d faced [Sale] a lot, and I think this year he’s a lot different than in years past. I feel like he’s been tougher to pick up, and he’s mixing his pitches a lot better.”

Ramos studied video of Sale before the game and analyzed Sale’s arm slot during his first at-bat, ignoring Sale’s kinetic delivery.

“If you concentrate on his moving, he’ll probably kill me,” Ramos said.

The pair of hits against a dominating and unfamiliar opponent were nice, but Ramos remains focused on the task at hand.

“This series we have to play hard,” he said. “And we have to win if we want to be in first place in the division.”

Phillies Crawford leads Personalized Saints Jersey IronPigs to win

Lehigh Valley had plenty of offensive stars on Tuesday, though none of them stood out quite like J.P. Crawford, who continued his recent resurgence by Personalized Saints Jersey hitting two home runs in a 9-0 win against Syracuse.Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

The top-ranked Phillies prospect (No. 4 overall) connected on a pair of two-run shots in the contest, as he went deep in the fifth inning and once more in the seventh before finishing 2-for-5 with four RBIs. It was the third career two-homer performance for Crawford, who’s hit three of his five home runs this season in his last three games.

What’s more, Crawford is enjoying his most productive stretch of the season so far, as he pushed his hitting streak to six games with Tuesday’s big performance. The 22-year-old shortstop is batting .389 with five extra-base hits during that stretch, which in turn has boosted his average to a season-best .216

Crawford has looked like his usual top-prospect self since his return from an eight-game absence in mid-June — one that he used to both recover from a minor groin injury and to clear his head after batting .194/.313/.252 in his first 56 games. In 15 games since rejoining the lineup, he’s posted a .293 average with 10 extra-base hits in 15 games.

“It really gave me time to just clear my head and get back to work,” Crawford told MiLB.com. “Something just clicked when I was hurt. I got back and felt good. I’m slowing everything down at the plate. I’m seeing the ball and trying to not do too much and go back to my old approach. It’s been working so I just have to keep trying to get better every day and stick to that approach.Men’s Nike Custom Made New Orleans Saints Elite Black Team Color NFL Jersey Sale.

“My confidence will never go down, that’s just the way I was raised growing up,” he added. “I’m never going to get down on myself because I know the hits are going to come eventually. I just have to put in the work every day.”

Dylan Cozens (No. 9) also homered in the victory, as it was his two-run blast in the first inning which started the scoring for Lehigh Valley. The 23-year-old outfielder is up to 19 homers this season,Joe Carter Throwback Jersey second in the International League, after pacing the Minors with 40 in 2016.

Scott Kingery (No. 11) paced the IronPigs’ offense out of the leadoff spot by Joe Carter Jersey going 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored. He’s hitting .361 with six extra-base hits in nine games since being promoted to Triple-A.

“Ever since [Kingery] came, I started a hitting a lot better. So he needs to stay,” Crawford said. “The guy knows how to play a game. He’s a grinder and I love having him in the leadoff spot. The guy just gets after it every day, puts in the work every day. He’s a great guy and a great teammate, and I love playing up the middle with him.”

The rest of the best performances from top prospects Tuesday

• No. 22 overall prospect Brent Honeywell (Rays’ No. 2) returned to form as he scattered three hits over six scoreless frames to pace Triple-A Durham in a shutout of Charlotte. He threw 62 of his 93 pitches for strikes in the outing while walking one and striking out nine. It marked the 22-year-old right-hander’s fifth outing with nine or more strikeouts in 15 starts with
Youth Nike Custom Made New York Jets Elite Green Team Color NFL Jersey Sale the Bulls.

“Nothing really drastic has changed,” Honeywell told MiLB.com. “I’ve been working with Kyle Snyder, my pitching coach, and me and my catchers have been on the same page every start. I had a tough hand, man. I think that’s it. I haven’t really done anything different. It was refreshing to get back on track because I know that’s how I throw the ball.”

• No. 29 overall prospect Tyler O’Neill (Mariners’ No. 2) pushed his home run total to 13 as he went deep twice and scored three runs in a 3-for-5 effort Triple-A Tacoma. The 22-year-old masher has been heating up of late, with a .340 average, seven home runs and 17 RBIs Custom Jets Jersey over his last 12 contests.

• No. 34 overall prospect Jay Groome (Red Sox’s No. 2) tossed five scoreless frames of one-hit ball with one walk and a seven strikeouts in his first start for Class A Greenville since departing his season debut on April 10 with a lat injury. The 2016 No. 12 overall Draft pick did not allow a hit until the fourth inning en route to facing the minimum. Groome, 18, had allowed two earned runs with 13 strikeouts in 11 innings across three rehab starts in the New York-Penn League ahead of his return to the Drive’s starting rotation.

• No. 47 overall prospect Triston McKenzie (Indians’ No. 2) posted his third double-digit strikeout game of the season as he fanned 11 batters in seven innings in a win for Class A Advanced Lynchburg. The 19-year-old righty permitted one unearned run on three hits in the outing, also generating eight ground-ball outs and throwing 73 of his 91 pitches for strikes. McKenzie’s ERA sits at 2.91 after the performance, and he’s now compiled 115 strikeouts against 32 walks in 89 2/3 innings (16 starts).

• No. 87 overall prospect Ronald Acuna (Braves’ No. 7) extended his hitting streak to five games as he connected on his 10th home run of the season and seventh as a member of Double-A Mississippi. The 19-year-old is hitting .444 (8-for-18) with a pair of homers during those five contests, which has pushed his Double-A batting line to .321/.370/.500 through 51 games.

Astros’ No. 11 prospect Garrett Stubbs went 3-for-4 with his fourth home run, a sixth-inning solo shot, and a pair of doubles in Double-A Corpus Christi’s victory against Arkansas. After a slow start to his season, the 24-year-old backstop has gone 8-for-18 with four runs scored and three RBIs in his past four games. On the mound for the Hooks, Framber Valdez (No. 29) struck out nine over six innings while allowing one earned run on two hits and three walks. The 23-year-old lefty has allowed three earned runs while posting 29 strikeouts in his last 22 2/3 innings (four starts).

• One level down, Jake Rogers and Stephen Wrenn, the Astros’ Nos. 21 and 27 prospect, each hit a home run and drove in four while going 4-for-5 in Class A Advanced Buies Creek’s rout of Myrtle Beach. Rogers’ homer was his 11th of the season and fifth in Carolina League, while Wrenn connected on his sixth of the year and third since joining Buies Creek.

Nationals’ No. 10 prospect Jesus Luzardo worked 4 2/3 scoreless frames, allowing six hits and striking out five in Custom Saints Jersey a no-decision for the Gulf Coast League Nationals. It marked the second pro start for the 19-year-old lefty, who underwent Tommy John surgery as a high school senior in March 2016 before accepting an above-slot bonus as a third-round pick to sign with Washington.

Rangers’ No. 15 prospect Yanio Perez connected on a pair of home runs for Class A Advanced Down East — his first home runs in 19 games since being moved up to the Carolina League. Perez’s second homer, a two-run shot in the fifth inning, proved to be the game winner, as the Wood Ducks downed Winston-Salem, 7-6. The 21-year-old outfielder was promoted after he batted .322/.392/.533 with nine home runs in 49 games with Class A Hickory.

“Honestly, a little weight has been lifted off my shoulders, but that’s not what I strive to do,” Perez told MiLB.com through team trainer and translator Alex Rodriguez. “It’s not my game. I like to hit line drives up the middle, but honestly, it felt good to do it.

“I was more comfortable after the previous at-bat, just looking for a fastball in,” Perez said. “[There was a] man on second, I was trying to drive him in and I noticed Salem was pitching me inside a lot. My whole approach was looking for fastball in and attacking it, and that’s exactly what I did.”

Reds’ No. 20 prospect Phil Ervin went 3-for-5 with two doubles and a career-best five RBIs, though it wasn’t enough to keep Triple-A Louisville from falling to Toledo, 10-8. He’s hit safely in six straight games for the Bats to raise his average from .224 to .242.

Rockies’ No. 14 prospect Sam Howard scattered three hits over eight scoreless frames in his best performance since advancing to the Triple-A level. The 24-year-old lefty also matched his career high with 10 strikeouts as he paced Albuquerque in a 2-0 shutout of Sacramento. He owns a 3.62 ERA in five starts for the Isotopes.

Yankees’ No. 18 prospect Nick Solak homered for a second straight game for Class A Advanced Tampa before finishing 1-for-3 with two walks. The 22-year-old second baseman has gone deep seven times in the Florida State League, where he’s hitting .305/.407/.466 through 76 games. Left-hander Ian Clarkin (No. 19) was equally impressive on the mound as he gave up four hits and struck out five over seven scoreless innings in a no-decision. The 22-year-old southpaw owns a 2.54 ERA in 60 1/3 innings this season, though he continues to miss few bats.

Rays lobby for Logan Morrison Personalized Saints Jersey Final Votes

CHICAGO — Speaking in the visitor’s clubhouse in Wrigley Field before Tuesday’s series opener against the Cubs, several Rays made it clear that Logan Morrison would be a deserving first-time selection for the All-Star Game presented by Mastercard, should he be voted in. And while Morrison didn’t want to make his own case regarding the Esurance All-Star Game Final Personalized Saints Jersey Vote, his teammates had no problem lobbying for him.

“It’s a simple question. His numbers speak for themselves. That’s what the All-Star Game should be about,” third baseman Evan Longoria said of Morrison. “It shouldn’t be about a popularity contest. You’re an All-Star based on your numbers and he’s second or third in the league in home runs. If not in the All-Star Game, than he definitely should be in the Home Run Derby.”Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

That omission has struck a nerve with Morrison.

“Gary shouldn’t be there,” Morrison said of Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez. “Gary’s a great player, but he shouldn’t be in the Home Run Derby. And I’m not disappointed. I mean it’s par for the course. I play for the Rays. I get it. … Nobody asked me, but if they would’ve asked me, I would’ve done it.”Personalized Jets Jersey

Sanchez burst onto the scene last September, hitting 20 home runs in 201 at bats after a late-season callup. He has added another 13 homers in 194 at bats this season, having missed nearly a month of action in April and early May. He leads MLB in average distance per homer (427 feet), which no doubt has garnered attention, too.Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

But there is no disputing that Morrison is having a career year. He entered the series against the Cubs slugging a career-high .579 with 24 homers in 80 Custom Jets Jersey games. That mark was tied for second in the Majors and had already Joe Carter Jersey surpassed Morrison’s previous season-high for home runs (23).

Longoria wasn’t the only one aware of Morrison’s feats. About 20 feet down from Morrison’s locker, Steven Souza Jr. rattled off a number of statistics to emphasize his point about the outfielder. “He’s second in all Major Leauge in homers, top 5, top 10 in the AL in OPS. He’s No. 3 in slugging, top 10 in RBIs,” Souza said. “All the numbers are there, and he’s a very feared hitter right now. And that’s what the All-Star Game is about.”Youth Nike Custom Made New York Jets Elite Green Team Color NFL Jersey Sale.

Still, it’ll be an uphill climb for Morrison to get in. The most recent voting results showed him in fifth in the fan vote, with Kansas City’s Mike Moustakas leading the way in the American League with 4.4 million votes.

It’s a long road, but not impossible for Morrison to get in. In fact, Rays manager Kevin Cash alluded to a similar situation to highlight what fans can do, praising how they were able to vote Corey Dickerson into the starting lineup for the game at DH.

“It says and shows a lot about our fans that recognize that,” Cash said. “So now we need those fans to help with LoMo, because we also feel that he’s very deserving.

“If you’ve watched us play over the last three months, Logan Morrison has played like an All-Star.”

Chris Archer has 1st MLB hit in 5-run 4th

CHICAGO — It all started with a pregame chat.

Before the Rays’ 6-5 win over the Cubs on Tuesday, Rays manager Kevin Cash shared some advice with Chris Archer. If the situation called for a bunt and the Cubs went into their shift — moving first baseman Anthony Rizzo next to the pitcher’s mound and having him slide even closer to home plate on the pitch — his starting pitcher should take advantage.

Full Game Coverage

“If Rizzo is in your face and you feel comfortable, fake-bunt [and] slash,” Archer recalled his manager saying. “Do it.”

Little did they know that exact situation would arrive fourth inning, and it would be part of a crucial sequence that led to the game-winning run.

Trevor Plouffe led off the fourth with the game tied at 1. He hit a grounder to third but it was smoked with a 107.2-mph exit velocity according to Statcast™, which allowed it to sneak past Kris Bryant for a single. Tim Beckham followed with a deep shot to center and the Rays took a 3-1 lead.

Adeiny Hechavarria kept the momentum going with a single that deflected off the mound and Peter Bourjos drew his seventh walk of the season to bring up Archer with two on and nobody out. After a pair of foul bunts to bring the count to 2-2, Archer put the plan into action, showing bunt and pulling back as Lester threw to the plate. He threaded a single to right-center for the first Major League hit of his career.

The improbable knock also scored Hechavarria from third to give Archer his first career RBI.

“They beat our bunt Joe Carter Jersey defense. That’s the first time that happened all year,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said. “Everybody does that. It’s hard to execute. It’s much more difficult to do that than bunt the ball. You’ve got to give him credit.”

The Rays only had one more hit in them from that point on. Fortunately, it was enough.Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

Steven Souza Jr. doubled to put the Rays up 6-1. The Cubs rallied, plating two in the fifth and two more in the ninth, but the Rays held on to win.

Standing at his locker amidst a hoard of media after the game, Archer was called the offensive star of the day by a reporter. He playfully interrupted, flashing a sheepish smile as he shot down the praise.

But even if he did want the credit, it wasn’t his alone. After Personalized Jets Jersey all, the bat he used to break his 0-for-23 career batting line wasn’t even his.

“I’m going to frame the bat, and it was Alex Cobb’s bat,” Archer said. “So that’ll always be a funny memory for the family.”

Cubs Joe Maddon’ Custom Saints Jersey reflects on time with Rays

CHICAGO — The Rays have removed photos of Joe Maddon from Tropicana Field since he left the team to become manager of the Cubs after the 2014 season. That year was also the last time Tampa Bay played at Wrigley Field prior to Personalized Saints Jersey this week’s two-game Interleague series.

Maddon knew about the changes at his former home ballpark.

“I don’t think it’s awkward at all,” he said. “There’s new people in place, and you have to put the new folks up at that time. I’m not ready for that black-and-white iconic photo that’s placed in the hallway next to the trophy — I don’t think I’m that guy. Otherwise, I have no ill will whatsoever. Personally, I prefer when my picture is not displayed somewhere, especially in post offices.”

Maddon’s influence is still felt with the Rays, who opened the series Tuesday with a 6-5 win.

“It’s definitely a challenge,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said of following the popular Maddon. “It’s an honor to be able to go up against him and know that our dugout and our front office and our fans have been so positively impacted by Joe Maddon.Women’s Majestic Flexbase Authentic 29 Joe Carter Toronto Blue Jays Home White Baseball Jersey.

“He put a face to Rays baseball, along with some other people, but he was right there at the top and I can’t wait to get out there and shake his hand,” Cash said.

“They’re a great bunch of guys and a lot of humor on that side,” Maddon said of the Rays’ staff. “I got my giggles in.”Men’s Nike Custom Made New Orleans Saints Elite Black Team Color NFL Jersey Sale.

They’re also competitors, and Cash, despite being unable to go onto the field dirung Custom Saints Jersey the game because of a fractured ankle suffered Sunday, was looking forward to the challenge.

“You asked me the other day, I’m not going to try to match wits with him,” Cash said. “I won’t be able to do that. I’ll get confused. So I’ll just manage the game to help us win.”

Cash and the Rays did beat the Cubs’ bunt defense in the fourth when pitcher Chris Personalized Jets Jersey Archer chopped an RBI single to right, his first Major League hit. That thrilled the Rays fans in the crowd of 42,046, the largest of the season at Wrigley Field. Archer pitched for Maddon. Did he have any inside knowledge? Not really. It was just a well-executed play.

“We’re going to do some unconventional things here,” Cash said before the game. “I mean, part of that was Joe, part of that was the way our front
Youth Nike Custom Made New York Jets Elite Green Team Color NFL Jersey Sale office works and a lot of things go into that. Coming into the organization I knew that we had some unique thoughts going forward and [we are going to] try to build off what allowed them to have success while Joe was here.”

The Rays will try to sweep the brief series with a win on Wednesday, then the two teams will meet again Sept. 19-20 in a homecoming for Maddon in Tampa Bay Custom Jets Jersey. The Rays are contending in the American League Wild Card race while the Cubs are trying to keep pace with the National League Central-leading Brewers.

Cash admitted he was surprised the defending World Series champions were hovering at .500.

“They’re not a .5 Joe Carter Throwback Jersey club,” Cash said of the Cubs. “I think all of baseball knows that. They’re going to get hot. They’ve got really good players, really good pitchers and a great coaching staff. They will get hot. I’ve read Joe’s quotes. There’s a lot of belief and there should be a lot of belief that this team is as talented as anybody’s.”
